Alan Whittle dreamed of one day becoming a writer/poet. For a while he tried hard to achieve his dream, then one day it occurred to him that he could become a recording artist as he had a passion for guitar, writing songs and performing live music.

Born in Boston, Lincolnshire in the united kingdom Big Al started playing guitar when he was just a child. Over the years Big Al has honed a truly unique style of songwriting that has been influenced by his passion of Englands best comedians.

His recordings are most usually associated with a humorous and deadpan delivery, accompanied by slick guitar riffs and hooks. Big Al has worked most of his life as a performer, songwriter and teacher of guitar. Highlights of his career include: writing and performing a top 40 song that was recently voted one of the best football songs in Germany ever!

Big Al has also taught some “big names” how to play guitar, with the likes of Donald Ross Skinner of the Julian Cope Band. Big Al has also had three songs on the top selling “Get in Line and Dance” country music compilation as well as songs published by the late Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger.

Big Al was awarded MU award for the best performer in the BBC Write a Lincolnshire folk song competition, K&K True Western Guitar Pick-up Artist of the Month as well as Big Al’s debut album “St Peter and John Dillinger“ got a three star review in Maverick magazine and the reviewer called Big Al a ‘country music great’ – it also prompted Maverick to send another correspondent to review Big Al when he headlined at The Maze in Nottingham. The reviewer called Big Al – ‘….England’s undiscovered treasure.’

Big Al is releasing several new tracks with DO IT Records over the coming weeks with the lead single being “Strumming On His Pink Ukulele!” Which is available now at all good retailers.
